Bees

Digital drawing by Grace

Bees pollute by going to flowers and the pollen goes on their legs so the pollen that is sticking to the bees legs. When the bee is moving the pollen drops slowly.

A bee looks like a fuzzy, hairy insect with six legs with two pairs of wings, and three body parts: a head, thorax, and abdomen. They are usually black with yellow stripes on the abdomen. Female bees have a stinger, while male bees do not.

Bees make honey by collecting nectar from flowers and processing it in the honey stomach, and regurgitating it to other bees who repeat the process. Finally, they deposit the mixture into honeycomb cells and use their wings to evaporate excess water, thickening it honey.

In conclusion, the honeybee is more than just a source of honey; it is a fundamental pillar of our ecosystem and food supply. Without the tireless work of bees pollinating crops and wildflowers, a large portion of our food would disappear, and biodiversity would suffer immensely. The threats of pesticides, habitat loss, and climate change are real and must be addressed to ensure the survival of these crucial pollinators, securing not only their future but our own as well.

Yellowstone Wolves

by Grace

Grey wolves were doing excellent but then the first English settlers first arrived
and they had thought wolves will kill their livestock and for over 100 years they had been hunting wolves and occasionally bears but when they killed all wolves 1928 then the land was not the same. Elk and other prey animals had overpopulated the area and most died in winter of starvation; grasses had become weak, and the young trees were eaten before reaching adulthood. Beavers were having trouble too, since they relied on trees to build dams, and fish were dying. Waters were getting dirtier, and wetland creatures were going away. Beaver dams were crucial in Yellowstone. Without wolves, the coyote became an apex predator, driving down populations of pronghorn antelope, red fox and rodents, and birds that prey on small animals. Rabbits, foxes, and rats were suffering, and songbirds were running away from Yellowstone because they didn’t have trees that they could build their nests in. Various scavenger species suffered without year-round wolf kills to feed on, like eagles, ravens, and bears.

In 1984 scientists decided to bring back grey wolves to Yellowstone.
They brought grey wolves from Canada; in total they brought 14 wolves.
For 10 weeks, they stayed in a very large cage to get used to the smell and sounds and basically get used to everything. The scientists put radio collars on them so they could track them. Now after they were released, photographers recorded everything; they were trying to get the wolves photographed so they can know wolf behaviors. Now one died immediately from a bullet, it’s hard out in the wild for wolves. Just a few wolves made a difference, elk and mule deer were now getting killed by wolves, and elk started to not stay in plains because it’s easier to get killed. Songbirds came back, beaver colonies were increasing, everything was thriving, after wolf reintroduction. In the northern range, elk numbers drop and beaver colonies increase from 1 to 12. Insects, songbirds, fish, and amphibians thrive. As the wolf returns, coyote numbers drop by half, allowing antelope, rodent and fox populations to increase.

Now after about 50 years, Yellowstone is healthy again. Over 100 wolves each year are alive, and elk numbers were 20k and are now in healthier numbers 7k,8k, and 6k. The wild is thriving but wolves still die from illegal shooting, and if they go out of Yellowstone then anyone can shoot them, they are on their own. The regular life span of a wolf is 5 because of their harsh life but some live longer to 8 or 10 years its hard to live that long for a wolf.

The eNd

Panda

Panda’s are strong animals and can take down 10 men, but they have to eat bamboo a lot or their strength will disappear. They usually sleep for 10 hours a day.

Only a few pandas are left on this planet if we don’t do anything about it, then pandas will be extinct forever and if that’s so we’ll have to put another animal on the extinct list and that would be sad so yeah.

Pandas nurse their young until they are 2 years old i think.

That’s all for panda bYE

DUIKER

by Grace June 11, 2025

The duiker looks like a deer because it has horns but the horns are not sharped the same, next it has hooves and a short tail. Duikers are light brown to grayish brown. Duikers have big ears  and black lines under its head.

Duikers can live in a  lot of places but most live in savannas, but sometimes they live in forests, woodlands, grasslands, and mountains, Duikers are native to Africa.

Duikers are adopted to live in many places in Africa, duikers are camouflage masters, their coat is a light brown to grayish brown. The brown hides well in forests and light brown blends well in the savannas.

If duikers sense danger they can freeze or lie down motionless to avoid detection.

The word duiker comes from the Afrikaan language for diver. They are known for their diving escape.

Apples, a drawing of my best friend, Leo

Leo is one of my preschool friends. We are best friends. I am happy to have one of his drawings here.

Pigs

Digital drawing, by Grace Moon

Pigs are very clean animals.

Contrary to popular belief, pigs are naturally very clean animals, and they wallow in mud to keep cool, not for dirtiness.

Pigs are smarter than dogs.

Pigs are considered one of the smartest animals on the planet, with intelligence comparable to dogs and even some primates.

Domestic pigs can run at speeds of up to 11 miles per hour 17.7 kilometers per hour, while wild boars can run even faster, reaching speeds of up to 15 miles per hour 24.1 kilometers per hour.

In many cases, their lifespan can be up to 20 years. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest pig is a 23-year-old, “Baby Jane” from the United States.

Yes, pigs, including mini pigs, can be potty trained, often using a litter box or designated potty area, and they are naturally clean animals that prefer to keep their sleeping area separate from their elimination area.

That’s all for today!

Crested geckos

Digital drawing, by Grace Moon

Crested geckos are solitary and should only be housed alone (but if you plan to breed it’s ok), being constantly housed with a male will often stress the female out, so it would be better to separate them for the rest of the time). Two male crested geckos will definitely fight, as can two females.

The crested gecko, often called the eyelash gecko, is a good pet for beginners because of its easy to keep requirements, and has a friendly nature.

Crested geckos can tolerate being handled, they are generally not known for enjoying it and are more of a display pet. They are skittish and might try to jump away, so handling should be gentle and infrequent.

Crested gecko bites are generally not painful and rarely break the skin, often feeling more like a small scratch or a pinch.

Unlike other geckos, a crested gecko cannot regrow a dropped tail. However, your gecko won’t experience lasting harm from dropping its tail. Keeping your gecko out of its vivarium for too long can cause its body temperature to drop. Return your gecko to its tank after about 10 minutes of handling.

That’s it for today.

Hamsters

Digital drawing, by Grace

Hamsters make great pets. They are also great companions too. There are four kinds of species that you could adopt. One of them is the roborovski dwarf hamster. They are dwarf hamsters that are smaller than average, but they still do need a big cage so they can dig.

Hamsters need to dig because in the wild their nests are in the ground and they dig them and lots of hamsters can’t get that enrichment a normal hamster will. They will have to have at least 8 inches of litter. They have to have a big cage so they can dig.

The cage size should be really big, not those pet store ones. Maybe if you’re going to buy one then buy an aquarium from a pet store or you could DIY one with wood and glass you could buy the niteangel stuff too.

Hamsters are solitary animals they like to live alone and if they don’t, they might mate or fight… fighting is dangerous for every animal. If you don’t want baby hamsters then do not put a male and female together.

Here is a list you have to buy to have a hamster… litter, wheel,  food, platforms, water bowl, enrichment toys, and of course, a cage

Bye, see you next time!

Blue whales

Whale, by Gracce

We are going to talk about blue whales!!

Blue whales are super Duper large they could grow up to 100 feet long and three school buses long that’s a lot. It’s taller than some buildings that’s impressive.!

They’re so heavy that they weigh about 30 ELEPHANTS like bro that’s super heavy. Each elephant weighs like 4 tons or something and that’s 20,000 pounds I don’t really know.!

They have big tongues. Their tongues are about 3 feet long. That’s what I know and also their mouths aren’t teeth. They’re actually like these little things that like the stuff that they eat could stick to.!

The babies are larger than me and I’m 4.5 feet but blue whale babies are probably the size of a long car and that means it’s super Duper big. I wish I was tall like that.!!

Sometimes they are loud, but if they’re loud , they are really loud but that’s how they communicate to each other sometimes.

That’s all I know about blue whales!!!
