Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

By Gracee

May 2-4 2025

It was fun. 2 hour drive. Rocky and curvy.

Slept in car. I had 5 bags, including a stuffed animals’ bag.

We tried to go to Palm Trail, but we gave up then we explored a lot of different places like the Badlands. A few hours later it was lunchtime. We ate ramen and tuna. Then we went to this Cactus Loop Trail, which we also gave up.

Then we headed to Wind Cave Trail. We made it even with just a regular van. Next I got a junior ranger badge at the visiting center, and then we camped. It was VERY windy while we were setting up the tent. While I was watching Maleficent our tent broke, so my dad kept going outside and fixing it. Most people evacuated.

Next day, it was really fun, and we actually got to go to the Palm Trail.

It was a 3-hour-long hike for our family. Oh, we saw an oasis and palm trees on top of the mountain in the desert.

Then we went towards the national park visiting center to buy souvenirs. I bought a water bottle and the water bottle holder thing. It was starting to rain, so we went home early. We were supposed to go to the Slot. While we were driving, we saw something like a windstorm, so we were glad we left earlier than we planned because the windstorm was the way we were heading if we were going to the slot.

Soon, we will visit Anza-Borrego State Park again.

Badlands and Windcave are unpaved roads in the desert.

Santa Catalina island

Dec 28, 2024 by Grace

The boat was giant and so cool. It was a 179-minute boat ride. First, I read three books in the Spy family series—actually, yeah, two and a half books—and also my mom threw up on the boat. The boat was really cool, and there were dolphins, and the dolphins were so cute, and they were following the boat, and then we landed.

We went to a restaurant, and I ate fish and chips except I didn’t finish it. We went to like a submarine thing, and we saw a bunch of cool fish and seaweed. The last place we played in before we got onto the boat was like the steep, and me and my sister first went to the other part/the dangerous part, then my mom and dad said that we should go the other way, so we did, and me, my mom, and my sister went to like this dangerous side where the water was coming in, and my sister found sea cretures such as anemones. They were cute. I ran and accidentally dunked my feet in water, so yeah, and then a few minutes later my feet were really cold. We almost missed the boat going back to our house, but my sister and mom came and said it was 3:55 pm, and the boat back started moving at 4:00. So we quickly went there, and yeah, there was not enough seating, so we sat on the ground, but first we sat at the top of the boat, except that was really cold, so I decided that we should go down and sit somewhere in the boat, and we did find a place. The sunset was pretty, and that’s all.

Cabrillo National Park

By Mom, Dec 14, 2024

It was the second visit to Cabrillo National Park for our family.

This year (2024-2025), we obtained a free national park pass (4th graders and their families could get a free park pass that covers national and state parks).

This time, we skipped the military history exhibit and skimmed through the lighthouse, but we made a trail to Point Loma Tide Pools through the Oceanside trail.

If you are interested in the San Diego history, please check the ranger program first at the visitor center. You could hear about Spanish exploration and the first explorer, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. His three-month voyage in 1542 was the first European expedition on the West Coast of the US.

Do not miss the visitor center, a kind of exhibition, a Cabrillo statue, the coin collection, the lighthouse, Bayside Trail, Oceanside Trail, and Tide Pools!!!

Craftmanship Museum

By Mom, Dec 13, 2024

I searched for the nearest museum from home and found the Craftsmanship Museum. It opens from Thursday to Saturday. We (two daughters and me) dashed there after school (Friday releases early). There, we have a good time -seeing miniature dolls and doll houses, cars, boats, and lots of other things like guns, pumps, trains. We also tried some old-styled toys and 3D printed items. 😘

Yosemite

Nov 28-30, 2024 by Grace

It was about a 15-hour drive to Yosemite, and there were lots of dead trees, but the view was nice. Also on the way to Yosemite we picked up my sister at UC Davis. Then we met the guy whose shop was called Chines Camp Shop or whatever. I bought one thing, which showed a lot of germs. There is snow at Yosemite. We went to our cabin located at West Yosemite. My sister and I built a snowman frost.
